Completed construction projects

The draft plans for the funding application were drawn up in 2016 with the involvement of local residents and all interested parties. The funding was approved in 2017 and the renovation began in January 2018. The implementation of the project was divided into two construction phases in order to avoid disrupting the Christmas business for retailers as much as possible. The first construction phase was completed in July 2018. The completion of the work was duly celebrated on August 17, 2019 with a construction site closing party.

The designs for the redesign of the square were drawn up back in 2016. After the funding was approved, the implementation planning was completed in 2018 and the tender for the construction work was prepared. However, an initial tender did not produce any results, meaning that construction work could not begin until January 2019. Due to the rapid construction process, the official opening took place in mid-May 2019 as part of the Urban Development Day.

When redesigning the squares, the main aim was to retain the character of the tree-lined square and make it easier to walk around. To this end, the existing paving was taken up and relaid. Polished graywacke cobblestones were used for the movement areas. The existing candelabra luminaires were upgraded and reinstalled. Both squares were also visually enhanced and bordered by modified or additional planting. The square in front of the ice cream parlor and the entrance areas to the adjacent Maasstraße and Amsterdamer Straße were also included to ensure that the redesign of the squares achieved an overall design effect. Completion was celebrated in April 2023.

The toilet facility on Johannes-Stalenus-Platz was also renovated with the help of urban development funding and was completed in early 2019. The parish of St. Marien also contributed to the costs, as it owns the facility.

The façade of the Priesterhaus had suffered significant moisture damage in the past, which had to be repaired. This involved restoring the entire plaster façade, which also involved renewing the painted clinker brick structure. Due to extensive drying work, the renovation could only be completed in the fall of 2020.
