Kevelaer Bathing Association

The Kevelaer Swimming Pool Association supports the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer in maintaining and operating the municipal swimming pools. It also takes measures to promote swimming events of a sporting or health-promoting nature and to promote public health care.

The pool association was founded in 1997, when the closure of the popular open-air pool was on the cards. However, thanks to the initiative of numerous committed citizens, it was possible to avert the closure of the outdoor pool. The volunteers and their newly founded association declared their willingness to contribute to the preservation of the pool through their personal and financial commitment. The town continued to run the pool. Thanks to this commitment, the traditional outdoor pool was renovated and embellished step by step over the years through voluntary community work. In particular, a slide and a diving facility were purchased, a beach volleyball court was built, a toddler pool was constructed, the walk-through pools were renewed, a sprinkler system was installed, the individual cabins were renovated and much more.

While the founders of the association initially went from door to door to win new friends and patrons, the Bäderverein is now one of Kevelaer's largest associations with around 2,500 members.

Year after year, the Kevelaerer Bäderverein continues to ensure that the outdoor pool becomes more attractive and is technically up to date. A special "technical team" was set up for this purpose.

However, the association is not only concerned with maintaining and operating the outdoor pool. The aim of the association is to support the entire bathing landscape in Kevelaer. It is also thanks to the intensive efforts of the pool association that the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer began to expand the existing indoor pool with a multi-purpose pool in 2017. In addition to subsidies and municipal funds, the association itself also contributed a not inconsiderable amount to the financing of the new water area.

The Kevelaerer Bäderverein is an example of commitment for the benefit of the citizens and sends a positive signal through its work against the decline of swimming pools.
