Kevelaer and localities

Kevelaer is a beautiful town on the Lower Rhine in the district of Kleve. Around 29,000 people live here. Kevelaer combines city life with the tranquillity of the countryside. Everyone quickly feels at home here, whether you are new or just visiting. The people of Kevelaer love their town and are heavily involved in Kevelaer's community life. Kevelaer consists of six small villages, all of which have something special. Together they make up the town. Kevelaer is also an important place for pilgrimages. Every year, numerous pilgrims and guests come here to find peace and quiet. The historic town center is particularly lively during the pilgrimage season. There are attractive shops and restaurants that invite you to linger. Since April 2017, Kevelaer has been known as a "pilgrimage town" to show its connection with the pilgrimages.

Since the municipal reorganization in 1969, the town of Kevelaer and the municipalities of Kleinkevelaer, Twisteden, Wetten, Kervendonk, Kervenheim and Winnekendonk have become one municipality. At the same time, the former municipalities of Kervenheim and Kervendonk were merged to form the village of Kervenheim. Each locality has a local mayor who represents the interests of their locality to the town council and the administration.
