City administration building of the Stadtkevelaer

Your training

to become a specialist employee (m/f/d) for

Pool operations

Location: Outdoor and indoor pool (Schools and Sports department)

In this three-year apprenticeship, we will make you fit in theory and practice!

Specialist pool attendants ensure safety in swimming pools. They supervise and look after bathers in the pool facilities. They monitor the technical facilities and water quality and carry out cleaning and disinfection work. They also maintain and service sports and play equipment, for example, and ensure cleanliness and safety in changing rooms and showers. They are also involved in administrative tasks and public relations work.

The relevant knowledge and skills are taught in the course of practical work in the outdoor and indoor swimming pool in the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer as well as through vocational school lessons (Franz-Jürgens-Berufskolleg in Düsseldorf).

The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer has an indoor pool with a swimming area and multi-purpose pool as well as a diving board and diving tower and a total water surface area of 412.5 m². The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer also operates an outdoor pool with separate swimmers' and non-swimmers' areas, diving board and diving tower, water slides, a water surface area of approx. 1,650 m² and a spacious sunbathing lawn.

The municipal baths are a constant attraction for guests from Kevelaer and the surrounding area. In close cooperation with the Bäderverein Kevelaer e.V., the pools are continuously being developed and modernized.

This is where the trainees learn, for example:

  • which agents, devices and processes are used for cleaning, disinfection and water treatment
  • how work and bathing hygiene is monitored and ensured
  • take samples and handle and maintain measuring devices for monitoring water quality
  • how to carry out first aid and rescue measures, in particular using life-saving swimming or cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods
  • how legal standards, administrative regulations, operating and service instructions for the supervision of bathing operations and the bathing regulations are applied
  • how to participate in the organization of operational processes of the pool operation
  • how to look after visitors and which communication rules to apply in different professional situations
  • which environmental protection measures must be observed

In the vocational school, further knowledge is acquired in job-specific learning fields (e.g. organization of swimming pools and basics of economic management, visitor care and public relations) as well as in general education subjects such as German/communication and politics/social studies.

We are looking for people who are committed and willing to learn, who communicate positively and are open to new
ideas. We expect:

  • At least a vocational school leaving certificate (Hauptschulabschluss)
  • High motivation, willingness to perform and learn
  • Athleticism (swimming, diving)
  • Concentration, observation accuracy and attention
  • Ability to deal with conflict and assertiveness
  • Body control and manual dexterity

We offer among other things:

  • Qualified, varied, interesting and challenging vocational training
  • optimal training support
  • an attractive salary in accordance with TVAöD (monthly training allowance (gross) in the 1st training year (AJ): € 1,218.26, in the 2nd AJ: € 1,268.20, in the 3rd AJ: € 1,314.02)
  • all the advantages of public service benefits, e.g. an annual special payment, payment of capital-forming benefits, vacation arrangements well above the statutory minimum vacation entitlement

The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer regularly trains one trainee (m/f/d) in this profession. As a rule, the training position is reallocated every three years (after the previous trainee (m/f/d) has completed their training).

As soon as the apprenticeship is advertised (usually in the fall), you are welcome to apply via our online application portal.
