Next steps for Kevelaer's parking guidance system

For the digital parking guidance system of the pilgrimage city of Kevelaer, ground sensors will be installed in several parking lots in the city area from July 29 to August 2. Holes will be drilled into the paving of the parking bays for the installation. The ground sensors are then poured into the holes.

In order to carry out the work, individual parking bays in the affected parking lots will be temporarily closed. The corresponding signs will be put up at the end of this week so that the closures will be effective from the beginning of next week. Please note that the parking lots will be worked on one after the other and therefore sufficient parking spaces should always be available.

The closures will take place on the following days in the respective parking lots:

  • 29.07 - 30.07: Am Bahnhof I, Am Bahnhof III, Innenstadt Ost, Am Krankenhaus I, Rathaus disabled parking spaces
  • 30.07 - 31.07: At the Basilica I
  • 31.07 - 01.08: An der Basilika II, Innenstadt West, Solegarten / Sportzentrum

The removal of the no stopping signs and the release of the parking bays will take place gradually: as soon as the work is completed in one place, it will be continued elsewhere and the parking space will be released again. The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer asks for your understanding and apologizes for any inconvenience caused. These measures serve to further improve the parking situation in our town.

Background

Two types of sensors are used for the digital parking guidance system: camera-based sensors and ground sensors. The camera-based sensors were already installed at the beginning of June. The ground sensors are now being used where camera sensors do not work, e.g. in the shade of trees. The sensors digitize the parking space in Kevelaer and thus generate live occupancy data in the future. No other data will be recorded.
