Kevelaer hot-air balloon festival and helicopter tours

Colorful funfair, varied gastronomy, helicopter tours and many impressive balloons

When large cars with colorful trailers and license plates from all over Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands drive into Kevelaer, it can only mean one thing: the balloonists are back! This year, over 30 balloons will take to the skies of the Lower Rhine from Kevelaer. Provided the weather is good, the launches are scheduled for Friday at 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 5.30 am and 8 pm respectively. The popular night glow takes place on Fridays at 10 pm. The model balloons will also be back in Kevelaer. "We are delighted to be organizing this major event together with our sponsors Volksbank an der Niers, Rheingas and REDSUN and ensuring an unforgettable weekend," says Verena Rohde, Head of Kevelaer Marketing.

Numerous attractions for young and old

On the weekend of July 12 and 13, the balloons will be in the foreground, but visitors will also be offered even more than in previous years. On both days, the colorful funfair opens at 3 pm with a carousel, swing boat, pirate ship, bungee trampolines, bouncy castle, model train and more. Some Kevelaer clubs have prepared special activities such as games, making flower wreaths and more. There will also be a balloon artist. Attention balloon pin collectors! This year, pins can be diligently collected and exchanged at the balloon pin booth. The gastronomic offer ranges from classic snacks to risotto, spelt pizza and Asian dishes. Waffles on a stick, ice cream, sweets, coffee and cake are also on offer. To quench your thirst, Wiesenwirt Heinz Kanders serves cold drinks and cocktails. A well-known favorite from previous years is the balloon on the crane with Redsun envelope. Young and old can climb into a real balloon basket and be pulled aloft by a crane for a brief moment. The helicopter is also back in action this year. Those who want to relax can look forward to sun loungers in the beach area or benches and bar tables under the parachute. On Saturday, DJ Künsken will be playing from 8 pm and invites you to the "Ballöner Party". "This year, we have expanded the offer to mark the anniversary. We are expecting a large number of visitors again," says Lisa Verhoeven, Head of Events.
