The voting documents for the referendum in the district of Kleve have been sent out. It may take a few more days for the letters to reach all households in the district. However, the first votes have already reached the Kleve district office. The content of the referendum is the question of possible participation in the state-wide application process for a national park with the areas of the Reichswald.
The referendum will take place exclusively by postal vote. Those entitled to vote have automatically received the documents by post or will receive them in the next few days. The subject of the referendum is this voting question:
"Should the district of Kleve apply to the NRW Ministry of the Environment to create a second national park on the Reichswald?"
This means:
- Anyone who would like the district of Kleve to submit an application for the Reichswald to become a national park must answer the voting question with "Yes".
- Anyone who does not want the Kleve district to submit such an application must answer the voting question with "No".
Participation in the vote is optional for those entitled to vote. This means that there is no obligation to cast a vote.
The voting documents consist of a voting notification, which shows the surname, first name and home address of the person entitled to vote as well as the number under which the person entitled to vote is entered in the voting register. Together with the voting notification, the person entitled to vote receives an information letter as well as the ballot paper, the voting slip, a ballot paper envelope (white) and a ballot paper envelope (red).
Votes can be cast until Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 12 noon. This means that the voting envelope must be received by the Kleve district administrator by this deadline. Voting letters received at a later date cannot be included in the vote count.
Further information on the referendum process can be found on the Kleve district website.
