With a large turnout from all affiliated clubs, the executive committee of the social clubs laid wreaths at the memorial in Marienpark. Georg Seegers, the chain bearer, gave a short speech and looked back on various events in contemporary history.
The social clubs of Kevelaer commemorated the National Day of Mourning today, Sunday, with a mass in the Marienbasilika followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial site in Marienpark. Traditionally, the mayor of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer, the local mayor and members of the council groups took part.
Musical accompaniment was provided by the male choral society, the Kevelaerer Musikverein and the fire department's marching band.
