Every year during the Advent season, the historic town center of Kevelaer is transformed into a festive sea of lights that attracts many visitors. The "Kevelaer Nativity Scene Market" is a special attraction in the run-up to Christmas and offers a unique mix of traditional arts and crafts, culinary delights and a contemplative atmosphere. This year, the "Nativity Scene Market" will get people in the mood for Christmas from November 29 to December 22, 2024. "If you want to experience the Advent season in a unique way, the 'Kevelaer Nativity Scene Market' is the place to be," says Verena Rohde, Business Development Manager and Head of Kevelaer Marketing. Here, the joyful anticipation of Christmas comes alive and the festive atmosphere becomes tangible - an experience that no one should miss.
Children's eyes shine too
The "Kevelaerer Krippenmarkt" is not only a highlight for adults, but also a true paradise for children. The lovingly designed children's corner is located in the Forum Pax Christi and offers a special experience especially for the youngest visitors. Here, children can immerse themselves in the magical world of Christmas. Whether making Christmas decorations, painting festive pictures or listening to exciting stories - the children's corner offers a variety of activities that will make children's eyes light up. The living nativity play, which tells the Christmas story in a special way, is particularly popular. It takes place on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at 3.45 p.m. in the Forum Pax Christi. Another highlight is the reading of short Christmas stories on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 pm. In addition to the nostalgic train, this year for the first time there will also be a steam carousel for younger visitors at the "Nativity Scene Market".
Kevelaer souvenirs at the "crib market"
At the heart of the festively decorated "Krippenmarkt" is a special meeting point for all visitors: the Tourist Information exhibitor hut. Here you will not only find comprehensive information material, but also a wide range of Christmas products and personal advice. The hut is the ideal place for all those who want to find out more about Kevelaer. Whether it's about the history of the town, current events or special sights - the Tourist Information team is on hand to help and advise visitors. "Insider tips about the 'nativity scene market' or information about special events in Kevelaer are particularly popular in the run-up to Christmas," reports the Kevelaer Marketing tourism team. But the exhibitor hut is much more than just an information stand. It also invites visitors to browse and discover. Here, visitors will find an exclusive selection of souvenirs and gifts that capture the special atmosphere of Kevelaer. This year, for the first time, there are handmade lanterns with the silhouette of Kevelaer, which are available exclusively from the Tourist Information. These not only conjure up atmospheric light in your own four walls, but are also a beautiful souvenir of your visit to the pilgrimage town.
