A lot has happened at playgrounds in the Marienstadt in recent months. Eight play and fun areas - six in Kevelaer, one each in Kervenheim and Winnekendonk - have undergone an "update". "Together with the members and the head of the playground commission, Ms. Walburga Kamps, we are delighted that there is once again plenty of new play equipment to play, climb and discover. The playgrounds on Heinestraße and Lortzingstraße, Weberstraße and Beethovenring have been upgraded with large climbing structures," explains Wolfgang Toonen, Operations Manager at Stadtwerke Kevelaer, adding: "New equipment also promises lots of fun at the Klinkenberg, Heykampring, Heisterpoort and Klosbremm playgrounds."
"Strandbad" and "Ezra"
Children have even more fun playing with sand thanks to the "Strandbad" facility on Heinestrasse, which has two sand elevators and three sand slides - one of which has a rotating wheel - waiting for young explorers. An inclined ramp with holding points, a slide and a little house are also waiting to be conquered by children under the age of three. Young and old can train their balance on the new balancing course.
The "Ezra" climbing combination on Lortzingstraße has two towers and various climbs with different levels of difficulty. Two stainless steel slides, a crawling tunnel and many other elements not only encourage climbing, but also interaction with other children.
On the playground on Weberstrasse, the new rotating rope carousel and the new climbing frame with sloping access and free climbing access, hanging ladder and slide are sure to impress.
The playground on Klinkenberg has been enriched with a teepee play area with a free climbing wall, two net walls and a rung ascent, as well as a hanging apparatus and a wall bars with a double horizontal bar.
Patience
Parents and children still need a little patience at the Beethovenring playground. The eleven-metre-wide climbing facility with two towers, various ladders, a rope bridge and sand play options has already been set up. "However, the concrete foundations still have to harden before the employees of the municipal depot can continue working. We hope that the playground can be opened by the beginning of November at the latest," explains Wolfang Toonen.
New swing combinations invite children to have fun at three playgrounds. The Heisterpoort playground in Kervenheim and Klosbremm playground in Winnekendonk have received a parent-child swing in addition to a nest swing. Here, parents or older siblings and toddlers can sit opposite each other and swing together. At Heykampring, the nest swing is complemented by a barrier-free swing, which also brings a smile to the faces of people with disabilities as they swing back and forth.
"When selecting new playground equipment, it is always particularly important to the members of the playground commission that it encourages children's imagination and creativity while allowing them to play safely," explains Wolfgang Toonen. There are a total of 56 playgrounds in Kevelaer and the surrounding villages. They are all managed by Stadtwerke Kevelaer. Around 100,000 euros were invested in this year's measures, some of which were replacement purchases.
