Winter is just around the corner and with it begins the time of contemplative festivities. In Kevelaer, the town of the Marian pilgrimage, the "Nativity Scene Market" has been an integral part of the pre-Christmas season for years. This year, it will once again make visitors' hearts beat faster. Thanks to the support of Volksbank an der Niers, the market will extend from November 29 to December 22, 2024, from Kapellenplatz to Luxemburger Platz and the weather-protected Forum Pax Christi, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy arts and crafts, culinary delights and Christmas traditions.
Unique nativity scene art and Christmas crafts
The "Kevelaerer Krippenmarkt" is known for its special selection of nativity scenes, nativity figures and artistically designed Christmas decorations. Around 40 exhibitors from the region and all over Germany present their lovingly handcrafted unique pieces here. From classic wooden nativity scenes to modern interpretations - everyone will find the right piece for their Christmas here. "We are particularly proud of the fact that many of our exhibitors have been with us from the very beginning and have been offering their wares at our market for years," says Verena Rohde, Business Development Manager and Head of Kevelaer Marketing.
Atmospheric atmosphere in a historic setting
The picturesque backdrop of Kevelaer city center, festively decorated stalls and the smell of mulled wine, sausages and crêpes - all this makes the "Kevelaerer Krippenmarkt" a special experience. Surrounded by traditional Christmas music, it creates a unique, homely atmosphere that delights families, friends and visitors from all generations. Thanks to Sparkasse Rhein-Maas, there is an illuminated photo point in the shape of an angel for the first time this year, which is ideal for great snapshots and souvenir photos.
A varied program for the whole family
The "Krippenmarkt" not only offers beautiful goods, but also an extensive supporting program. Every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, the nativity play staged by Karl Timmermann takes place in the life-size nativity scene in the Forum Pax Christi. On the Kapellenplatz, music groups provide festive sounds and invite you to sing along. For younger visitors, there will be a children's train and, for the first time, a children's carousel. Letters to the Christ Child can be written and handcrafted in the Christmas workshop. Various Christmas stories are read aloud by the guides of the pilgrimage town every weekend at 3 pm.
Culinary delights and regional specialties
Of course, the culinary delights are not neglected either. Local restaurateurs and stalls offer savory and sweet treats, from classic bratwurst to potato pancakes and poffertjes. Those who prefer it warm and sweet can look forward to hot chocolate, freshly baked waffles or the traditional mulled wine. Numerous decorated bar tables and seating areas offer the perfect opportunity for a little break and a bite to eat.
Experience Kevelaer - A town full of Christmas magic
The "Kevelaerer Krippenmarkt" is more than just a market - it is a feast for the senses and a place of encounter. Kevelaer Marketing invites visitors to enjoy the magic of Christmas to the full. Visitors can take a stroll through the festively illuminated and decorated streets and discover the numerous stores and cafés in the town center, which entice visitors with special offers at Christmas time.
