What are the duties of a mayor?
As full-time mayor, Dominik Pichler has two main tasks: Firstly, he is the head of Kevelaer's municipal administration, which has around 360 employees. Secondly, he is the first representative of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer and Chairman of the Council.
His schedule is correspondingly full: internal meetings, council meetings, receptions and public events outside the town hall alternate. The mayor presents awards, opens events and exhibitions and answers questions during interviews for radio and television. He also prepares for meetings and signs important documents such as letters, plans and certificates.
He also takes part in various committee meetings or even chairs them. Long working days are an integral part of the mayor's job. In his absence, the mayor is represented on representative occasions by three honorary deputies elected by the council. Ludger Holla is his general deputy in the administrative management.
Who is Kevelaer's mayor?
Dr. Dominik Pichler has been Kevelaer's mayor since 2015. Back then, he won by a margin of 80 votes. On September 13, 2020, the citizens of Kevelaer elected him as their mayor for another five years with 77.69% of the vote.
Dr. Dominik Pichler, born on 9 March 1976 in Rosenheim, graduated from the Kardinal-von-Galen-Gymnasium in Kevelaer in 1995. He then did his civilian service at St. Josef-Haus in Kevelaer-Wetten and began his law studies at the University of Bonn in 1996. He then completed his legal clerkship at Fulda District Court. From 2005 to 2015, Dr. Dominik Pichler was an independent criminal defence lawyer in the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer. From 2009 to 2015, he was a member of the Kevelaer city council. He has been mayor of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer since 21.10.2015.
