We use maps from OpenStreetMap(https://www.openstreetmap.de/) on our website to show you the location of our sites and other geographical information.
OpenStreetMap is an open source mapping tool. Your IP address is forwarded to OpenStreetMap so that the map can be displayed to you. You can find out how OpenStreetMap stores your data on the OpenStreetMap data protection page(https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Datenschutz and https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Legal_FAQ).

The map service is used on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR: the data processing serves to improve the user-friendliness of our website and is therefore in our legitimate interest. You can refuse the use of cookies by clicking on the lock symbol next to the map. If you have rejected the use of cookies, you can display maps again in individual cases by clicking on the lock symbol next to the map.

Social media are an integral part of many people's everyday lives. In order to meet our demand for the most comprehensive information and transparency possible, departments of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer are also represented on Facebook and Instagram. The YouTube channel of Kevelaer Marketing (Mein Kevelaer - Wallfahrtsstadt Kevelaer) is used to play videos.

Data collection and processing

You do not need to be a registered user to view the content on these platforms. We would like to point out that these platforms also collect your data if you view content as a non-registered user. The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer has no influence on the data collection and further data processing of the platform operator. In particular, it is not clear to what extent, at what location, for what purpose and for how long the data is stored by the platform operator, whether the provider complies with its deletion obligations and to whom the data is passed on.

All social media channels of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer can only be accessed by visitors to the website via an external link. We do not use any plugins or other interfaces on our website that the respective networks offer for embedding the offers on other websites. We would like to point out that user data (e.g. personal information, IP address) may be stored by the network operators in accordance with their data protection guidelines and used for business purposes.

We use this service to make our content as accessible as possible (see accessibility statement). In this context, your browser may transmit personal data to ReadSpeaker if it is available on a website and can be read. The content is sent to ReadSpeaker's data centers to be converted into audio files. However, ReadSpeaker does not collect or store any personal data.

The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The legitimate interest lies in the error-free functioning of the website. The data is deleted as soon as the purpose of its collection has been fulfilled.

How ReadSpeaker webReader works

The content to be read out is either sent by the client web browser (POST) or fetched from our servers (GET). This depends on the chosen implementation. The data is sent via an encrypted channel with HTTPS (TLS >=1.2).

The content is processed internally on site to convert it into speech. Once this is done, a redirect is sent back to the user, redirecting the web browser to our servers that generated the audio.

No text content needs to be stored permanently, the data is only stored temporarily during the creation of the audio and use of the same audio by the user.

Data collected, stored and used

ReadSpeaker does not collect or store any personal data. ReadSpeaker only logs how many clicks the reading function generates. With the exception of general web server logs, which are temporary, user-specific data is never collected, logged or documented.

If personal data is present on a website and can be read, it can be sent to our data centers to be converted into sound files. If there is no personal data on the website, no data is processed by webReader.

There are two types of protocols that are used for different purposes.

Web server protocols

These logs are required for troubleshooting and to prevent unlawful use. Web server logs store IP addresses. Access to these logs is restricted to a limited number of people with specific roles related to maintenance. Web server log records older than 30 days are permanently deleted.

Log information is restricted to technical personnel and is only accessible via encrypted private channels with MFA. ReadSpeaker does not sell or share log information.

Statistics logs

The data for statistics logs is anonymized directly. It only contains the customer ID, timestamp and which voice was used. This data is used for billing purposes.

Statistics are saved per activation. Activation occurs when a user clicks on the "Read aloud" button to have content read aloud.

The statistics log contains the URL from which the read aloud button was activated. If the URLs are not unique for each user, no user information is saved.

Caching

The data required for webReader to function optimally consists of the audio files, which are only stored temporarily in our cache on disc by default. The cache is dynamic. Depending on how often requests are received from users, a cached file remains for 20 minutes or longer. It is deleted if it has not been used for 2 hours. A cached file is deleted after 24 hours, regardless of how often it is requested. Depending on the general load situation, these values can be adjusted to compensate for this.

When changes are made to a customer website, a new job ID (and therefore a new audio file) is generated when using the webReader. It is possible to switch off audio caching, for example if the content of the website is classified. This has an impact on prices due to the increased capacity consumed by not using the caching system and additional development is required.

The data collected will not be passed on to third parties.

webReader sets up two technical cookies:

1. a technical session cookie that determines whether or not the script is loaded when the page is loaded. This cookie has the name "_rspkrLoadCore" and is a pure session cookie. The cookie is set after webReader has been activated, i.e. when an interaction with the player has taken place. This cookie is used to inform us that a user has activated webReader on a page. We then automatically load the ReadSpeaker scripts when the user navigates to another page so that the user receives the audio more quickly.

2. a cookie for saving setting changes in the settings menu. By default, this cookie is called "ReadSpeakerSettings", but its name can be changed by configuring "general.cookieName". The cookie has a default lifetime of 360000000 ms (i.e. approx. 4 days), which can be changed with the configuration "general.cookieLifetime". This cookie is used to save the settings of individual users so that they do not have to reapply their preferred settings on every page they navigate to.

Data purposes: webReader stores the user's settings in a cookie so that they are saved and applied when the user navigates between pages.

Collected data: No data is collected. Information about speed, highlight colors, etc. is stored in the cookies. No IP address is stored.

Data recipient: No data is sent from the cookie, but only stored in the browser.

docReader sets up two technical cookies:
1. dcrjobnames - contains an encrypted version (MD5) of the URL of the document and the page number that was last accessed. Lives for 30 days.
2. dcrsettings - Lives for 30 days and stores information on: whether JavaScript mode was last used or not, whether the user has selected text mode or not, interface language, reading speed, highlighting method, text and background color for highlighting, font size in text mode, font in text mode

Our website uses Matomo, which is a so-called web analysis service. Matomo uses so-called "cookies", which are text files that are stored on your computer and enable us to analyze the use of the website. For this purpose, the usage information generated by the cookie (including your shortened IP address) is transmitted to our server and stored for usage analysis purposes, which serves to optimize our website. Your IP address is immediately anonymized during this process so that you as a user remain anonymous to us. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is not passed on to third parties. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.
